ABOUT ME

I’m a Midwest graphic designer whose love for typography shapes how I approach branding, layout, and visual systems today. I’m influenced by designers like Helmut Krone, Bradbury Thompson, and Shepard Fairey, I studied at Johnson County Community College, where I serve on the Graphic Design Advisory Board. Outside of client work, I explore typographic form through Letterpress composition and printing. This hands-on process challenges how I think about color, spontaneity, restraint and intention, and my approach to traditional design projects. I’m also interested in user experience, art and music history, air-cooled VWs, and distance mountain biking. I’m deeply committed to the ethical treatment of people and animals, and these interests shape how I approach design and the culture around it.

ADVERTISING My automotive advertising and design projects have taught me how to blend brand discipline with creative exploration. Rather than viewing manufacturer compliance as a limitation, I’ve treated it as a framework for clarity, finding where my personal style could live within established systems while still pushing ideas forward. Across brands including Volkswagen, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Porsche, Land Rover, Jaguar, Maserati, and Alfa Romeo, I focused on creating work that respected brand standards, felt intentional across mediums, and reinforced consistency without losing personality.
PRESENTATIONS At Proof Positioning, my role was to translate complex customer research into presentations that were clear, structured, and engaging in a live setting. Most decks ranged from 50 to 100 slides and supported multi-hour readouts, which required strong visual pacing and narrative flow. I developed flexible presentation systems that adapted to different clients and content while maintaining a consistent Proof brand identity across presentations, pitch decks, and supporting materials.
LOGOS With logo design, I always prioritize clarity and longevity. My process begins with research and competitive context, then moves to original vector exploration, always starting in black and white to ensure the idea works at its core. My objective is always to create a logo that will have the same impact on a hot air baloon as it will on a business card. Whether designing for national brands or smaller, highly considered projects, my objective is the same: create a mark that is distinctive, functional across applications, and strong enough to endure without relying on trends or excess.
INFOGRAPHICS I approach infographics as if I’m creating a visual that will translate to a positive user experience and learning. My focus is on hierarchy and rhythm using typography, color, and simple visual systems to guide viewers of any age through complex content without overwhelming them. The goal is always clarity first: helping people grasp key ideas quickly and retain them.
BILLBOARDS Billboard design demands absolute focus. With only a brief moment to connect, every decision must support immediate recognition and comprehension. I approach billboards by stripping messages down to their most essential form, then using scale, contrast, and hierarchy to ensure they land instantly. The objective is not to explain, but to communicate clearly at driving speeds from 55 to 85mph.
ARROW TRUCK SALES - SOCIAL For Arrow Truck Sales, social media was a performance-driven channel built around relevance and timing. I led the long-running “Truck of the Day” campaign, selecting inventory, defining audiences, and managing content across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Over time, the channel evolved into a highly targeted touchpoint that consistently connected serious buyers with available inventory while strengthening Arrow’s relationship with owner-operators and fleet customers.
WEBSITE DESIGN My web design experience has always been about - structure, accessibility, and search-friendly thinking-combined with an increasing focus on user experience. While my work centered on building and maintaining WordPress sites, my current interest lies in product thinking and UX strategy. That new perspective now shapes my design work, with an emphasis on clarity, intuitive interaction, and reducing confusion across digital experiences.
EMAIL & BANNER ADS My objective with email and banner ads is simply to get attention. My work has focused on developing clear creative that quickly informs and supports campaign goals. Strong hierarchy, concise messaging, and a focused call to action guide every execution. When done well, these assets reinforce brand recognition and move users toward awareness and action.
MAZUMA ADVERTISING CAMPAIGN I researched, concepted, developed a fully integrated, multi-channel campaign for Mazuma Credit Union built around the “Mazuma is for People, not for Profit” concept. The work was to inform younger and diverse audiences that a member-owned alternative to traditional banks was something to embrace and act on. The objective was communicating shared values, reinforcing trust, and connecting with the audience through a unified message.
TV AND SOCIAL MEDIA Mazuma Credit Union Television and Social Media concepts
MAGAZINE LAYOUT & DESIGN Aristocrat Motors wanted a printed medium, similar to a newsletter, that would help customers feel connected to the dealership year-round. We proposed a customer-exclusive quarterly magazine featuring the arts, entertainment, local eateries, and nonprofit organizations supported by Aristocrat - along with, of course, their vehicles. Production, printing, and mailing costs were offset through manufacturer co-op funding and a select group of local advertisers. The magazine also served as a strategic extension of the “Today’s Aristocrat Is You” campaign, which we developed to resonate with a younger buyer demographic.

LETTERPRESS Letterpress is both a personal practice and a creative counterbalance to my commercial work. Working with a 1939 Vandercook proof press and traditional wood and metal type, I explore typographic form through layered prints and experimentation. This hands-on process informs how I think about composition, restraint, and intention, and continues to influence my approach to professional design projects.
